چکیده

Angela Weber and Ulrich Lüttge Institut für Botanik, Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, Schnittspahnstraße 3—5, D-6100 Darmstadt, Bundesrepublik Deutschland Z. Naturforsch. 43c, 257-263 (1988); received December 23, 1987 Sethoxydim, Herbicide, Redox Systems, Isolated Organelles, Plasmalemma Leaf slices of sethoxydim-sensitive (Poa pratensis, Festuca ovina) and tolerant (Poa annua, Festuca rubra) grass species were found to be able to reduce extracellular ferricyanide by electron transport across the plasmalemma. This reduction was inhibited by the herbicide sethoxydim, and the sensitive species were much more strongly affected than the tolerant ones. The inhibition was concentration dependent. Sethoxydim affected the electron transport in isolated Poo chloroplasts. Polarographic and photometric measurements of ferricyanide reduction suggested photosystem II to be the site of action. Inhibition occurred only in the sensitive species Poa pratensis and was linearly dependent on concentration. In isolated mitochondria from sensitive Zea mays coleoptiles sethoxydim also acted as an inhibitor of electron transport. Only slight inhibition was measured with mitochondria from tubers of tolerant potato (Solanum tuberosum). It is concluded that sethoxydim generally acts as inhibitor of membrane-bound redox systems. The specific inhibition of the plasmalemma-bound redox system of sethoxydim-sensitive plants could contribute to a selective action of the herbicide.

The Effect of Different Doses of Tank-mixed Herbicides on Antioxidant Enzymes Activity of Soybean

Herbicide plays the main role in guaranteeing the quantity and quality of food. Soybean reactive oxygen species scavenging system eliminates the herbicides’ side effects on the plant by activating antioxidant enzymes, which affects the yield. So, we investigated this procedure to reveal the effect of herbicides on food production. Methods: Experiments were carried out in two locations of Alborz...

Effects of Atrazine (Herbicide) on Blood Biochemical Indices of Grass Carp (Ctenopharhyngoden idella)

Atrazine is currently the most widely used herbicide in agriculture for the production of corn and other crops in the world. In the present research, the effect of acute and chronic toxicity of atrazine (herbicide) on blood biochemical indices of grass carp (Ctenopharhyngoden idella) an important species of commercial fish was studied. In acute toxicity, pollutant toxicity to fish was tested by...

Regeneration of Glyphosate-Tolerant Nicotiana tabacum after Plastid Transformation with a Mutated Variant of Bacterial aroA gene

Presence of antibiotic resistance markers has always been considered as one of the main safety concerns in transgenic plants and their derived products. Elimination of antibiotic selectable markers from transgenics is a major hurdle for finding efficient and safe candidates. Herbicide tolerance genes might be attractive alternatives. In this study, a variant form of the 5-enoylpyruvyl shikimate...

Effects of Acetyl-Coenzyme A Carboxylase Inhibitors on Root Cell Transmembrane Electric Potentials in Graminicide-Tolerant and -Susceptible Corn (Zea mays L.).

Herbicidal activity of aryloxyphenoxypropionate and cyclohexanedione herbicides (graminicides) has been proposed to involve two mechanisms: inhibition of acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) and depolarization of cell membrane potential. We examined the effect of aryloxyphenoxypropionates (diclofop and haloxyfop) and cyclohexanediones (sethoxydim and clethodim) on root cortical cell membrane ...

Identification of Drought Tolerant and Sensitive Species of Thyme through Some Physiological Criteria

Drought as the most important abiotic stress has deleterious effects on plants. Developing drought tolerant varieties can help produce plants in a sustainable way. This study was conducted to identify drought tolerant and drought sensitive thyme species including Thymus vulgaris, T. vulgaris (origin: Spain), T. carmanicus, T. daenensis and T. kotschyanus and to study the mechanism used by them ...
